Chain is a village located just 10 minutes by car from one of the most beautiful regions of Pontevedra, called Ponte Caldelas. Ponte Caldelas, in the Verdugo river valley, is a town hall with unique landscapes and ancient traditions. The houses of the indianos constitute a symbol of Ponte Caldelas. Originating from the emigration experienced by the different towns in the area since the 19th century, a walk through Ponte Caldelas and nearby Anceu allow us to enjoy numerous and varied examples of this unique architecture. The river beach of A Calzada is a magnificent place to cool off during the summer, but also a very good place from which to explore the landscapes of the Verdugo River and the magnificent hiking trails that surround Ponte Caldelas. The beach, which has a car park, picnic area and lifeguards during the summer months, was the first river beach in Galicia and the second in Spain to receive the blue flag, a flag it has held since 2015. In addition, this semi-urban beach has a separate bathroom for small children and also for pets. Following the Blue Path and leaving Ponte Caldelas behind us, a beautiful route through forests of willows, oaks and ferns will take us to another essential part of our visit to the town hall: the Pasos da Fraga. These centuries-old steps, also known as 'poldras', have served the inhabitants of the area to cross the river and today provide a unique and striking landscape. In addition to the route that makes up the Sendero Azul, in Ponte Caldelas there are other spectacular hiking routes that can be done with family or friends throughout the year. Perhaps one of the best known is the Ruta das Almiñas e Foxo do Lobo, which runs through the Pasos de A Fraga in a circular route about 10 kilometers long. This route, which can be started at the Caritel church for greater comfort, runs through populated areas and natural landscapes, highlighting the different traditional steps over the Verdugo river and the Coveliñas stream, the wolf's pit and the different stone crosses, breastplates souls and chapels in our path.
